This helicopter when registered to the West German Bundeswehr as 84+11 was delivered to the Heeresfliegerwaffenschule in July 1972.

This helicopter had received a special paint scheme to commemorate the 40th anniversary of CH-53 service with the Bundeswehr (Heer), marking four decades from 1972 to 2012. The official anniversary celebration took place on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Bückeburg. Notably, it was also the final official event overseen by the German Army (Heer) General then in charge of all German CH-53 helicopters, before their transfer to the German Air Force (Luftwaffe).

From July 1, 2012, until mid-2013, operational responsibility for the CH-53 fleet transitioned to the Luftwaffe (Air Force). Flight training for CH-53 crews continued to be conducted at Bückeburg, but under the supervision of the Hubschraubergeschwader 62 (HSG 62).

By 2015, a total of 14 CH-53 helicopters, of which six existed only on paper, and eight were operational, were to be permanently based at Holzdorf in Brandenburg, following the completion of new infrastructure and hangar facilities. Once all remaining CH-53s received their scheduled upgrades, the fleet was expected to remain in service until at least 2030.

Noted in Donauwörth for a short crew pick-up from Eurocopter on July 12, 2012.

This helicopter was noted in formation with two other CH-53 helicopters over Würtzburg at around 08:53 hrs on July 18, 2012.

She was finally transferred from Bückeburg to Fassberg on July 19, 2012, to be stored as an instructional frame with the Technische Schule der Luftwaffe 3 (Tslw-3). Its Total Time Since New (TTSN) is over 6000hrs.

Photographed by me inside-out and in detail, September 7, 2013.

Still at Fassberg in Hangar 5 during March 2014 and October 2016.

Preparations for this airframe's return to Bückeburg had been underway since approximately August 2023?

On July 24, 2024, this Sikorsky CH-53G finally returns home to Bückeburg.

After years of dedicated service, she has finally returned home and will become a part of the Lehrsammlung der Heeresfliegertruppe (German Army Aviation Corps educational collection), joining nine other decommissioned helicopters already preserved as static exhibits.

The CH-53G is set to be installed at the Helicopter Museum ("Hubschraubermuseum") as part of its permanent display. Like previous additions, this helicopter will serve not only as a historic artifact but also as a symbol of the legacy and technical evolution of Germany's rotary-wing fleet.

In August and September, technicians from Helicopter Squadron 64 (HSG 64) in Diepholz will work alongside the museum's training workshop, led by Harald Habben, to reassemble the aircraft. Components such as the engines, transmission, rotor head, and tail boom, all removed for safe road transport, will be reinstalled on site.

Once restored, the CH-53G will take its place mounted above the entrance of the museum's new building, welcoming visitors and aviation enthusiasts while honoring the operational history of one of Germany's most iconic transport helicopters.

This project not only preserves military aviation heritage but also showcases the craftsmanship and dedication of the personnel who maintain and restore these impressive machines for future generations.

After years of service, this CH-53G will become part of the German Army Aviation Corps’ Education collection. At the Helicopter Museum in Bückeburg, it will join nine other retired helicopters preserved in the static display.

As a permanent exhibit, it represents the history and evolution of German military helicopter aviation.

Since August 2024, technicians from Helicopter Wing 64 (HSG 64) in Diepholz, together with the training workshop under the leadership of Harald Habben, have been reassembling the aircraft. Components removed for road transport, including the main and tail rotor blades, are being reinstalled on site.

Video 3 by Follow me - HeliTech, published on June 5, 2026, shows the final journey of Sikorsky CH-53G 84+11 on June 3, 2026. After completion of the transport, the CH-53G was installed above the entrance of the new museum building, where it welcomes visitors as a striking symbol of one of Germany’s best-known transport helicopters.

A sincere thank you to all military personnel and civilian staff who contributed to this project. Through their dedication, expertise, and outstanding workmanship, the aircraft has been restored to an impressive standard.
